Why we started with the books.
Small business bookkeeping has been broken for decades. The owner spends their weekend coding receipts; the junior bookkeeper types the same supplier names into the same accounts a thousand times a year; the month-end close drags into a fortnight because nobody has time to reconcile. Every hour spent here is an hour not spent running the business.
Language models finally got good enough to read a bill the way a human does — and to learn a chart of accounts instead of pretending it doesn't exist. We built Synced for Xero and QuickBooks first because that's where AU, UK, and NZ small businesses actually live. Founded 2024 in Sydney.
“AI agents” is the means, not the mission. The mission is giving small business owners their Saturdays back.
The Bookkeeper is the first member of the AI finance team we're building. An Analyst for reporting and a Coordinator for workflow automation are in the works — but nothing gets a public page until it's earning its keep in production.
